1. Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent1 Fels Naptha bar soap (Sunlight Bar for Canadians)
1 cup washing soda 1/2 cup borax 4 cups hot water Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan of hot water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap is melted. Fill a 5-gallon pail half-full with hot water. Add melted soap, washing soda and borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Add more hot water until the pail is full. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken. The next morning it will be a gel-like consistency. Dilute the gel 1/2 and 1/2 with water in a laundry jug. Use 1/2 cup for top-load machines and 1/4 cup for front-load. (I just fill the cap on the laundry jug) The concentrate can be used as a stain pre-treater. It works great to remove carpet stains! |

joann_fl Aug 10, 2010
1 Roll of Thick, strong paper towels ( I use Scott)
2 cups water (boiled or distilled)
2 Tbsp of your favorite Baby Wash or Baby shampoo
1 Tbsp Baby oil
(I add a bit of witch hazel to mine)
While the water is cooling, cut one roll of paper towels in half with knife. Use half of the paper towels and take out the core so wipes pull out through the center of the container or just fold paper towels over and put in wipes container.
Mix water, baby oil and baby wash.
Put paper towels in container.
Poor the mixture over the paper towels and then let set a while.
Turn the wipes over to insure even distribution of mixture

¾ cup cold water
1 package gelatin
¼ cup cold water
2 cups hot water
½ cup powdered detergent
Food Coloring
Mix first 2 ingredients and in a separate container, allow gelatin to soak in the ¼ cup of cold water. Add hot water to the starch mixture and boil until the solution is clear, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in gelatin mixture and soap until fully dissolved and thickened. Pour 1 cup into each of 3 containers (old coffee tins with plastic lids are great) and add food coloring to each.
Home-Made Paint Roller -- To make a neat paint roller for your children to paint with, all you do is pry the top off an old roll-on deodorant bottle and fill it with thinned finger or poster paint. Replace the top and away you go!
Easy Paint Clean-up -- Before you give the paints to your children, pour a small amount of liquid dish soap into the paint first. It does not effect the paint, but it sure helps cleaning up.

16. Orange Spice Pomander Ball
1 thin-skinned orange (the peel stays on)
1 box whole cloves
1 oz. orrisroot
1 oz. ground cinnamon
½ oz. ground nutmeg
2 feet ¼ to ½ inch ribbon cut in half
Take one of the pieces of ribbon and tie it around the orange, knotting it on top. Do the same with the other piece of ribbon and you should have an orange that is encased by ribbon tied on to and crisscrossed on the bottom. Non-slippery ribbon such as grosgrain is best, but if you use silky ribbon, you may want to stick a pushpin in on each of the strips around the orange to keep them from slipping. Stick the cloves all over the orange, but not in the ribbon. Place it in a bowl with orrisroot, cinnamon, and nutmeg and leave it there for 4 to 5 days, turning it occasionally. Then, over the sink, with a blow dryer on a cool setting, whoosh away the ground herb powder and hang it in a closet. It not only smells good but it also repels moths.

18. Orange Vinegar Cleaner
2 oranges (peels only)
1 pt. white vinegar
1 Qt jar
Fill jar full of the orange peels.. chop them up and just fill it. Then pour vinegar over the whole thing and seal, letting it set for two weeks.. Strain, then transfer to a spray bottle and use for cleaning. Seal the rest and use when needed.
You can add some cinnamon sticks. Cinnamon oil kills mosquito larvae. Vanilla beans went in next because vanilla repels flies, mosquitoes and other insects.
Some say to boil the vinegar, there are so many different ways to do this. Some even add lemons to it. They say this is all non toxic and one kid even drank some, and said it tasted like pickled oranges.

22. Dishwasher Cubes
1 Cup Borax
1 Cup Washing Soda
1/4 Cup Epsom Salt Lemon Juice
First I started by mixing all the powders together. I made sure they get mixed up good because I wanted it evenly spread through all the cubes I'm going to be making. If you're not sure about the Borax, just eliminate that from the recipe, it won't harm it at all. When everything was mixed I put a cup of the powder into a separate bowl and then poured in a little bit of lemon juice. For one cup of powder I used 4 tablespoons of lemon juice. You don't want it to be dry but you don't want it soaking wet either. 4 tablespoons made it a little wet and sticky which is exactly what I wanted.
The lemon juice will foam when it hits the powder. I mixed it all in and got it a little sticky. When I was finished with that, I started to add it to the ice cube trays. I put in a little and patted it down, then when I ran out I did another cup to mix with the lemon juice.
Now when I was all done, I set the cubes up on the window sill in the kitchen so that it would get a lot of sun and therefore dry quicker. Letting it sit overnight made it nice and hard and when I woke up in the morning I was able to flip the trays over and knock the cubs out.

5 min prep
1/2 cup Clorox
2 powder bleach
1/2 cup Ivory liquid dish washing soap (original formula)
You can make this using any amount of "ingredients", as long as the Clorox 2 Powder (it MUST be the powder) and Ivory dish washing liquid are mixed in equal parts. If "Ivory Joy dish washing liquid" continues to appear, be aware that this is IVORY not Joy liquid.
1. Add luke warm water to the mixture, enough to make a sudsy "bath" for your items.
2. Let the garment sit covered in the water for at least one hour.
3. Check to see if the stain has disappeared.
4. If it is still there, soak until the stain is gone.
